Creativity & Connection

Ever since I was little I wanted to connect to people through my creativity. I would stand up in front of my elementary classes and read out epic stories I had written, many including my classmates. In high school I moved on to art and painted murals all around the building. In college I learned how to engage people the best way through graphic design and art exhibitions. And now I love the endless possibilities of constructing great user experience in web development and programming. It's like this huge puzzle that has a huge reach across the world!

Skills

Javascript | React / Redux | HTML / CSS | Python | Flask | Express | Node.js | Git | SQL / SQLAlchemy / Sequelize | Alembic | Jinja | Pug

I graduated from AppAcademy, completing their 6-month full-time intensive Full-Stack Software Engineering program. This was a fast-paced environment and coupled with my already challenge-seeking character, I gained the tools to quickly learn emerging languages, programs, and APIs by myself. I have extensive experience building applications using React/Redux with a variety of backend frameworks including Flask and Express connected to custom built database schemas using PostgresSQL. I also created fully functioning apps with templating engines such as Jinja and Pug. I'm especially proud of my React.js and Flask Midnight Oil project where I cloned Brainscape/Anki to make a history themed flashcard creation and studying app that is intuitive to use and dynamically updates decks and cards to reflect a user's current proficiency.

I worked at App Academy for a year assisting students throughout the entire program. Teaching at App Academy honed my debugging skills, enhanced my collaborative abilities, and deepened my passion for helping others. Through mentoring and instructing students in software engineering, I gained expertise in resolving issues, working in a team, and providing guidance. This experience reinforced my dedication to assisting and empowering others in their learning journey.

Midnight Oil

A React and Flask clone of Brainscape and Anki based off the phrase "burning the midnight oil", meaning to study late into the night. Crypt Seeker

React and Sequelize clone of HipCamp, but for those interested in staying in supernatural places. There are some good ole fashioned Haunted Hotels, Cryptid hideaways, mysterious spaces, and otherwise supernatural places!

Graphic Design

I've done some freelance but mainly I enjoy designing things in my spare time, especially when making educational materials--usually having to do with Software Engineering. Some notable clients are working with Middle Tennessee State University's history department to make museum panels for Old Stone Fort Archaeological Park in Manchester, TN. Also, in 2018, I collaborated with Lydia Harris, Irish historian and anthropologist and Professor Sam Moore to create research panels for display. Those panels were displayed at the University of Sligo in Ireland and also at MTSU. The pair of posters "Tie it Up or Ticket?" won the Nashville Student Addy Award Gold Winner Award in 2015.

Fine Art

I mainly work in woodcut relief prints (using both Western printing and mokuhanga techniques) However, I used monotype, photo-litho, and collage in the below pieces as well! I'm really interested in dual importance of traditional art and modern technology. Right now I'm in an artist group investigating machine learning and stable diffusion. If you want to see some of my stable diffusion trainings, reach out to me! I would love to have a conversation!
